Fruit saplings distributed to Speaker and Parliament officials for Nekathata Pelayak national tree planting programme

According to the Sinhala and Tamil New Year auspicious time schedule, the national tree planting auspicious time is held on April 18 at 10.16 am.

Accordingly, today (02) the Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industry, Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera, distributed the fruit plants to the group of parliamentary officials including Mr. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Hon. Speaker of the Parliament, to plant saplings for the Nekathata Pelayak program.

The Minister also distributed fruit plants to the High Commissioner of Parliament Mrs.Kushani Rohanadheera, Deputy Commissioner Mr.Chaminda Kularatne and sergeant at arms Mr. Kushan Jayaratne.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries has taken steps to implement a number of sapling planting programs all over the island under the theme of “Nekathata Pelayaak- Jathiyata Husma Dena Nekatha”.

Commenting on this, the Minister mentioned that this year, on the National Tree Planting Auspicious time, plant any tree that bears fruit and plan to implement a gardening program covering the entire island.

It is proposed to implement a program of providing vegetable and fruit plants as well as seeds under the gardening program with the support of the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Agrarian Development.

Accordingly, it is proposed to operate 100,000 gardens by the Department of Agrarian Development and 30,000 gardens by the Department of Agriculture.
