General election: Independent group places deposit to contest Badulla district

An independent group has placed their cash deposit to contest the 2024 General Election from the Badulla district yesterday (1).

According to Badulla district Assistant Election Commissioner K.Kandeepan, a resident of Haliela has deposited Rs.24,000 for the 12 independent group candidates and has submitted the name list of the 12 candidates to the Badulla district Secretariat office yesterday becoming the first independent group to place cash bond for Badulla district.

A total number of 705,772 voters who were registered to cast their votes for the recently concluded 2024 Presidential Election are eligible to vote for the forthcoming General Election that will be held on November 14.

Previously, an independent group from the Colombo district deposited cash bonds for the upcoming General Election on September 29 and became the first independent group to place the cash deposit to contest for the General Election from Colombo district.

Accordingly, Suresh Chamara Nakandala on behalf of the independent group deposited the cash bond at the Colombo District Secretariat office.

Nominations for the General Election will be accepted from October 4 to 12 noon on October 11 and the General Election will be held on November 14.

Acceptance of postal voting applications which commenced yesterday (1) will end on October 8.
