Girl murdered over love affair

Rathgama Police said a 20-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries after an employee of the Rathgama Local Council stabbed her and her mother after an argument over a love affair.

The deceased has been identified as B.H. Lakmali (20). Her mother is currently undergoing treatment at the Karapitiya Hospital in Galle.

The suspect involved in the murder, M. Janaka (55), is said to be a close relative.

Police said that the son of the suspected Rathgama Local Council employee had been in a romantic relationship with the deceased.

It transpired that the suspect came to the house where the deceased and her mother resided and stabbed them after an argument over his son’s love affair with the deceased.

Rathgama Police said that the suspect is in hiding after this incident and investigations are being conducted to arrest him.
