GLGGA Christmas Fair on December 8-9

The Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association’s (SLGGA) Headquarters Building Committee is organising a Christmas Fair on December 8-9.

The Christmas Fair will be held at the SLGGA’s National Headquarters located at Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha Colombo 7, from 9-7 p.

A range of items such as – clothes for men, women and children; shoes; batiks ; table linen; bed linen; Christmas decorations; spices and food items will be on sale.

The Christmas Fair is one of a series of fund raising ventures to collect funds towards the building of a new headquarters for the SLGGA.

Established in 1917 the SLGGA is one of the largest women’s organizations in Sri Lanka having a membership of over 86,000 girls; young and older.

It is an intergenerational organization which is primarily school based -the packs and companies of Butterflies; Little Friends; Girl Guides and rangers belonging to a specific school. The SLGGA represents all provinces of Sri Lanka.

The SLGGA also has a branch for the disabled which was established in 1924 and is still very active.

The Girl Guide Movement in Sri Lanka is expanding and the current headquarters built in the 1930’s is no longer adequate for the increasing number of members and their varied activities. The SLGGA invites all those interested in the welfare of girls; young and older especially former Guides to visit the Christmas Fair and patronise the Fair to help the SLGGA collect funds for the new building.
