Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said that there are no plans to remove the control price imposed by the government on rice.

The Minister stated this at the media briefing held at the Government Information Department today (28) to inform the Cabinet of Ministers.

He said that no matter how many proposals are made, there is no plan to remove the rice control price.

Stating that 700,000 metric tons of red rice are expected this season, the Minister said that he hopes to resolve the red rice issue within two weeks.

The Minister further said:

There is a problem with those red rice. If there is a queue in some places, it is not for Nadu rice but for red rice. So, to resolve the red rice issue, we have to wait until the harvest of this season is completed. We hope that this red rice issue will be completely resolved within almost two weeks. We expect a harvest of 700,000 metric tons of red rice this season. We have provided a solution to the Nadu problem. At that time, there was a shortage of 70,000 metric tons.
One hundred and sixty-seven thousand have been brought. We are providing a systematic solution to this problem. On the other hand, if anyone is trying to make an unfair profit by exploiting this opportunity, we will conduct raids against them through the Consumer Affairs Authority. We cannot allow the price of all remaining rice to be increased based on the red rice problem. We are controlling the prices of goods in a way that provides relief to the people. Some of the problems are not ours.
