Govt Information Dept signs MoU with Sripalee Campus to promote quality media culture

Colombo University’s Media Studies Department of the Sripalee Campus entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Information Department to promote a quality media culture, in the presence of Transport Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr.Bandula Gunawardhana at the Media Ministry Auditorium yesterday (18).

The purpose of this MoU is to create an intelligent, sensitive and understanding university student population to ensure high standards of media culture.

The minister also said that through the study of valuable films in the government’s film department, university students involved in film education can get more inputs.

The Minister said that this will provide an opportunity to the students of Colombo University (Sripalee Campus) to receive practical training in institutions coming under the purview of the Media Ministry such as the Government Information Department, Lake House, SLRC and SLBC. The Minister also emphasized that the example that went beyond the warning in giving space to practical implementation beyond the education received from the book would enable us to create a stronger media practice.

According to Vice-Chancellor of Colombo University Senior Professor H.D.Karunaratne, this is a golden opportunity in the history of the University as well as in the media.
