Govt targets $18 billion exports by 2025 despite setbacks

0 4

The government remains optimistic about reaching its 2025 export target of USD 18 billion and building a USD 300 billion economy by 2030, despite setbacks from recent natural disasters, according to Ministry of Industries and Entrepreneur Development Secretary Thilaka Jayasundara.

Speaking at the Certified Productivity Specialist (CPS) award ceremony, she noted an 8% increase in export revenue this year but warned of a potential USD 100–200 million loss due to cyclone-related disruptions affecting over 550 direct exporters.

Jayasundara however said that improving productivity is essential for recovery, noting Sri Lanka’s labour and total factor productivity remain low.

The ministry aims to achieve at least 3% positive growth in total factor productivity by 2030, she said. (Newswire)
