A meeting between US Ambassador Julie Chung and Minister of Industry Sunil Handunnetti was held recently at the Ministry of Industry and Enterprise Development.
The Ambassador congratulated the National People’s Power Party on its strong mandate and congratulated Handunnetti on his appointment as Minister of Industry.
During the discussion between the Minister and the Ambassador, it was stated that the corruption-free procurement process that has taken place since the appointment of the new government has sent a good signal to investors. Many investors in the United States are currently trying to bring their industries from other countries to South Asia, and Sri Lanka will be able to get a share of it and that she will support the country in this regard.
The Minister invited US investors to invest in Sri Lanka’s mineral sand and granite sectors, and stated that the government would take steps to reduce the production costs and tax-related problems faced by industrialists. The US Embassy was represented by Bradley Gardner, Economic Officer of the Embassy, and Roshani Peiris, Economic Specialist of the Embassy, and Chaminda Prathiraja, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Industrial Entrepreneurship Development.
