Grenade placed to chase house occupant in Rikillagaskada

The Hanguranketha Police have commenced an investigation regarding an attempt to get a person living in Rikillagaskada arrested by hiding a hand grenade at his house and tipping off the police intelligence unit.

According to a tip-off received by the police, the grenade was found by a team of Hanguranketha police officers on May 10 covered by a plastic container under a banana tree behind the house.

Police said that the husband and wife who owned this house had died four years ago.Police have received information that their children are in Australia.

Police also said that the owners of the houseNhad been cared for by a relative of their family and even a salary of Rs.25,000 per month had been paid to him. That person was in that house when the bomb was found. During questioning, he had revealed that he has been taking care of the couple for 14 years, but he has not yet been given the promised money.

Therefore, he had said that he will live in this house until he is paid what is owed to him.

He had also told the police that the children of the couple who own the house are preparing to sell this house and that his stay here has hindered them from doing so.

Accordingly, he had told the police that this grenade had been placed in the garden of the house to put him in trouble. When the police investigated this, it was found that someone had placed the grenade and informed the police with the intention of getting the person staying in this house arrested and remanded.

Haguranketha Police said that a lengthy investigation will be conducted into this incident.
