Harin rubbishes AKD’s claim about returning tourists

Tourism, Lands and Sports and Youth Affairs Harin Fernando says that 33 percent of foreign tourists who visit the country come back for more visits and the NPP leader distorted these figures while making a statement in Canada stating that only three percent of foreigners who visit this country come back for more visits.

Speaking to journalists in Kandy, he also said if a person does not know the facts about something, it is important not to make false comments about it.

The Minister stated that research has confirmed that the British, German and French nationals who have visited this country will return several times to visit this country and to bring them back again and again, new destinations should be introduced.

He emphasised that as of March 31 this year, 628,000 tourists have come to Sri Lanka and thus, it is very likely that the highest number of tourists who have come to Sri Lanka in one year in history will be recorded this year.

The Minister said that the highest number of tourists have come to Sri Lanka in 2018 and that number is 2.3 million.
