The Supreme Court has postponed indefinitely the bail application of Harsha Illukpitiya, the Immigration and Emigration Controller, who was remanded on charges of contempt of court. The decision was made by a three-member bench headed by Preethi Padman Surasena.
The hearing regarding the charges has been scheduled for May 8.
Illukpitiya was remanded for failing to implement an interim injunction issued by the Supreme Court concerning Fundamental Rights Petitions.
These petitions were filed against the previous government’s decision to transfer the e-visa issuance process to two private companies.
