HC rejects preliminary objections raised by defence

The preliminary objections raised by the defence over the case filed against millionaire father Mohammed Ibrahim and two brothers of the two suicide bombers Insaf Ahmed and Illam Ahmed, who carried out the bombings of the Shangri-La Colombo and Cinnamon Grand on Easter Sunday in 2019, was yesterday rejected by the Colombo High Court.

The order was delivered when the case was taken up before Colombo High Court Judge Navaratne Marasinghe.

Following the delivery of the order regarding the preliminary objections, the case was fixed for pre-trial conference on July 6.

When the case was taken up before the Court yesterday, the counsel who appeared for third accused Mohammad Ibrahim Ismail Ahmed, made a bail application which was opposed by the counsel who appeared on behalf of the Attorney General.

Following that, the order regarding the bail application was also fixed for July 6.

The millionaire father and two brothers of the two suicide bombers were accused of withholding information from the police that suicide bombings were to be carried out on Easter Sunday in April 2019.
