Health Minister Dr. Pathirana on inspection tour

Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana recently participated in a special inspection tour of the National Drug Regulatory Authority and the National Drug Quality Safety Laboratory.

This observation tour was conducted with the aim of identifying the working methods of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority and the National Medicines Quality Assurance Laboratory, the duty problems of the staff, the problems of physical resources and human resources, etc.

National Drug Regulatory Authority Chairman Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama and Acting Director Gauri Katriarachchi briefed the Minister on the current problems of the National Drug Regulatory Authority.

The Minister has advised National Drug Regulatory Authority Chairman, Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama to make staff revisions as necessary and pay due attention to the development of the human resources of the authority.

The Minister further instructed the Acting Director Gauri Katriarachchi to prepare the necessary methodology and plan for the infrastructure and repair work of the National Drug Quality Safety Laboratory and to get the necessary staff as well as laboratory equipment for the laboratory and provide it to the Health Ministry.

As the Health Ministry, we are constantly working to provide the necessary support to the National Drug Regulatory Authority to carry out its duties in a regular manner without any hindrance and thereby the people of Sri Lanka will be free from the shortage of quality drugs.

The Minister emphasized that there is always the possibility of getting these activities done in a transparent manner. The Health Ministry took steps to establish the National Drug Regulatory Authority on July 1, 2015.

Deputy Director General (Laboratory Services) of Health Ministry Dr. Sudath Dharmaratne and a group of officials and staff of the Drug Regulatory Authority joined this observation tour.
