HIP recognised at ‘Women Friendly Workplace Awards 2024’
The Hambantota International Port Group (HIP) was recognised as one of Sri Lanka’s most women-friendly workplaces at the recently held ‘Women Friendly Workplace Awards 2024.’
The event, organised by leading women’s magazine Satyn in collaboration with AICPA & CIMA, celebrated over 30 companies from various industries, committed to promoting gender equality and empowering women in the workplace.
The Awards evaluate organisations based on several key criteria, including training and development opportunities for women, recruitment strategies that prioritise diversity, equal pay, the composition of board and senior management, overall workforce diversity, measures against violence and harassment, and commitment to workplace safety. HIPG’s dedication to these principles has set a new standard in an industry traditionally dominated by men.
“We are immensely proud of this recognition, which highlights our ongoing efforts to foster an inclusive workplace,” said Jeevan Premasara, Senior General Manager of Human Resources and Administration of HIPG. “Our pioneering initiatives aimed at increasing female participation in the port and terminal industry, not only transform our organisation but also set a precedent for change in the industry as a whole.”
HIPG’s commitment to gender equality is evident in its innovative programs designed to empower female employees. Initiatives such as the ‘Self-Impression is Power’ program and dedicated yoga training sessions cultivate confidence and positivity among women, equipping them with the skills needed to make a powerful impact in their professional lives.
Partnerships play a significant role in enhancing HIPG’s commitment to women’s empowerment. Collaborating with their parent company China Merchant Port Holdings has exposed HIPG employees to international best practices, advanced technologies, and business processes.
This partnership allows employees to engage in cross-border work assignments, participate in overseas training programs, and take part in collaborative projects that broaden their horizons and provide valuable experience. The C-Blue Training Programme stands out as a key initiative focused on advancing the careers of female employees at HIPG.
Equal remuneration and job opportunities across all divisions of the port are fundamental tenets of HIPG’s workplace culture. The company prides itself on implementing fair recruitment policies that ensure men and women have equal access to opportunities, regardless of gender. This commitment not only strengthens the workplace but also enhances overall productivity and innovation.
