Hold a General Election and get our support – SJB

SJB, National Organizer Tissa Attanayaka yesterday said President Ranil Wickremesinghe can take the support of the

Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and hold a Parliamentary election now.

He said the SJB is not ready to support the Government that has a large number of MPs who were rejected by the people due to their inability of solving the country’s economic woes.

He said the President should realize that he is in power with the support of a few MPs but not with the people’s mandate which is the real democratic means to become the President of Sri Lanka.

Attanayaka told the media that if the President is willing to hold a fresh Presidential election, the SJB will wholeheartedly support him to amend the Constitution and pave the way to hold a fresh Presidential Election, especially for the sake of people in the country. He also recalled that the people not only rejected the former President but also all the MPs who were with him.

“The President is well aware that there are many economic issues in the country and people are facing untold hardships due to the unbearable cost-of-living, the best solution is to hold a fresh election so that people will elect a suitable persons to form a new Government.

He also urged the Government to refrain from imposing taxes on essential food items at this crucial moment when a large number have lost their incomes due to the loss of employment.
