House suspends State Minister Diana, two MPs

The Parliament on Saturday voted to suspend State Minister Diana Gamage, MPs Sujith Sanjaya Perera and Rohana Bandara from attending Parliament for one month for their recent unruly behaviour.

The motion for the implementation of the recommendations of the Committee on Ethics and Privileges related to the incident that occurred in the Parliament on October 20, 2023 was passed by a majority vote in Parliament on Saturday.

57 votes were cast in favor of the motion and one vote was cast against. Furthermore, three Members of Parliament abstained from voting. The only member who voted against was TNA MP M.A.Sumanthiran. According to the recommendations of the report submitted by the Committee on Ethics and Privileges to the Parliament, the parliamentary service of the said Parliamentarians will be suspended for a month from December 2, 2023.
