Huge potential to tap Iranian travelers to Sri lanka
Iranian Ambassador Alireza Delkhosh met with Finance Ministry Secretary Mahinda Siriwardana and discussed several important matters with him. The Iranian Ambassador said that there is huge potential to tap high spending Iranian travelers to Sri Lanka but there are some issues that need urgent attention. He pointed out that their Iranian currency credit cards have limited acceptance in Sri Lanka and a system should be in place to rectify this. He suggested issuing a temporary debit card at the airport to iron out this issue.President Chamber of Tourism and Industry A. M. Jauffer said that currently there is a Teheran to Colombo one weekly charter flight and two Iranian airlines are keen to operate to Sri Lanka during the season. “More than 10,000 Iranian tourists have visited Sri Lanka so far and their average stay is one week.”
