Husband confesses to killing, burying his wife

A young man aged 23 has confessed to murdering and burying his wife in the Neeravippitti area in Mullaitivu, Mulliyawalai Police reported.

The Mulliyawalai Police had unearthed the body of the 22-year-old woman who was buried at her residence in Neeravippitti. The suspect was arrested in Wellampitiya on Tuesday (Oct 24) after having fled the area subsequent to murdering and burying his wife.

According to preliminary investigations held, it has been revealed that the suspect had murdered his wife on Saturday night (Oct 21) and afterwards he had buried her body in the backyard of their residence.

The mother of the victim had filed a complaint with the Mulliyawalai Police citing that her daughter was missing and her mobile phone was not ringing when attempts were made to call and contact her, which led to the incident of the murder being revealed.

The postmortem examination will be carried out at the Mullaitivu Hospital where the victim’s body has been placed.

The suspect will be produced before the Mullaitivu Magistrate by the Mulliyawalai Police.

Mulliyawalai Police are conducting further investigations into the murder.
