Media Spokesperson of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Noel Priyantha said that the first generator that was operating at the Norochcholai Lakvijaya power plant was stopped due to the sudden power outage that occurred across the island on Saturday (9) night.
He further said that although the production of electricity from the Norochcholai power plant has stopped, according to the current water level in the vicinity of the hydroelectric power plants, it is possible to provide electricity without inconveniencing consumers. It is said that the second and third generators of the Norochcholai Lakvijaya power plant were stopped for maintenance before this and the first generator which was producing electricity also went out of operation on Saturday (09) due to the power outage. However, the third generator which was stopped for maintenance work is being restarted to provide electricity.
Before this sudden outage, the first generator of the Lakvijaya power plant had provided an electricity capacity of 300 megawatts to the National Grid.
