I will enter politics if Puttalam people, Party request – Sanath Nishantha’s wife
Former State Minister Sanath Nishantha’s wife Chamari Priyanka Perera said that if the people of Puttalam and the Party leadership make a request, she should consider filling the void created by her husband Sanath Nishantha’s death.
She said that her husband was a hardworking politician and she was able to support to his husband’s political career as his private secretary.
Perera visited the family of late MP Sanath Nishantha’s security officer, Police Constable J.A. Jayakody, who died along with State Minister Sanath Nishantha in a road accident on the expressway, and inquired about the well-being of the late police officer on Monday (29) .
Perera, a lawyer told journalists:”My husband did a great service to Puttalam district as well as to the people of the country. He never sent away anyone who sought his help empty-handed. My children and I cannot believe this. Even before the heat of my husband’s dead body cooled, some media published that I would enter politics. None of those people who posted that news from enquired me. I have not told any media that I am coming to politics”.
“I managed half of his political activities as his private secretary. I had no hope of ever entering politics. There is still no such hope. But if the people of Puttalam and the people of the country as well as the party leadership ask me to fill his void and carry forward the people’s mission, I will consider it. I have a great responsibility for the future of my four children. I have a good job and I am self-confident. I am facing the future with the feeling that I am not alone. Even if I enter politics, I will never do the politics that my husband did. Although some people criticize him, he was an honest politician. He was a person who dedicated himself to serving the people for most of the time.
There was a large crowd around him which was his strength. My husband gave houses for a large number of people in the Puttalam district. However, we did not have land to bury the remains of my husband who built ten or fifteen houses for the homeless. In the end, even the last rites had to be performed in a temporary place. I lead more than 500 women’s organizations in Puttalam district. I know the pain of women. Today, Mrs. Lakshika, the wife of Police Sergeant Anuradha, as well as myself, is deeply hurt and shocked by this incident. I will provide any necessary support to her and her son. They will not be left alone.”
The mother and brother of former state minister Sanath Nishantha were also present on this occasion.
