The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s (SLPP’s) Presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa said the SLPP handed over the country to President Ranil Wickremesinghe because it was the right decision to protect the state at that time.
“Although there were policies that the SLPP could not agree with, we still offered our support. We engage in politics with a policy,” he said at the SLPP’s inaugural campaign rally held at Anuradhapura on Wednesday (21).
He further stated, “I promise you all that I will conserve and improve the agricultural policy that was being implemented in this region between 2005 and 2015 and take it to an entirely new level. We will give the required technology to the youth and create a farming community that can reap more harvests from a small plot of land. We will link technology with agriculture. We take the responsibility of making your children rich and this country rich.
“The SLPP is committed to respecting all religions in this Buddhist country. We will not give land rights and Police powers to Provincial Councils. We are direct with our statements. We say ‘yes’ to what we can do and ‘no’ to what we cannot.”
