Since Sri Lanka is a country with human resources, physical resources, advanced culture and rich heritage, rapid economic development can be achieved through proper management of these resources, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Chairperson Maria Fernanda Garza said.

She stated this when she arrived in Sri Lanka last Thursday (19) on a five-day visit.

She pointed out the need for a systematic programme to strengthen Sri Lanka economically.

“Sri Lanka has a very high cultural identity and diversity. Also, Sri Lanka has developed human resources as well as physical resources. By properly managing these resources, Sri Lanka has the potential to achieve very high economic development,” she said.

Garza also emphasized that the International Chamber of Commerce is ready to provide the necessary support to Sri Lanka to achieve economic progress. Garza emphasized that it is not difficult to economically strengthen a country rich in human resources and physical resources linked with huge cultural identity.

However, she emphasized the need for an orderly and formal programme to achieve this and stated that the support of the International Chamber of Commerce is constantly available for that.

She stated this while addressing an official meeting held at the Colombo Stock Exchange on Wednesday (18). ICC’s Sri Lanka Branch President attorney-at-law Shanil Fernando and Secretary Hemakumara Gunasekara welcomed her to the island.

Garza said that this is the first time that a chairperson of the International Chamber of Commerce has visited Sri Lanka. She also said here that during her stay in the country, she is going to meet many bankers, businessmen, investors and government officials.
