Inquiry into OIC for taking jeep home on holiday

Ratnapura DIG Priyantha Liyanage has initiated an investigation regarding and alleged incident where the OIC of the Balangoda Pinnawala  Police Station had taken a jeep belonging to the police station home while going on leave.

The OIC who took a four-day leave had allegedly gone home in the jeep on January 26. Following information received on Saturday (28) by the SSP in charge of Ratnapura division, he had inquired about it and later the jeep had been brought to the police station that night itself.

The offending OIC is a resident of Matara Kamburugamuwa. He had taken the jeep without permission from any superior officer.

A senior police official said that a police station OIC cannot take a jeep belonging to the police station to his home for his personal use and if he takes the vehicle outside the police division, he must take proper permission.

Disciplinary action will be taken against the officer if found guilty and if the accusation is correct it will amount to violation of relevant police circulars.
