The Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs has issued a special gazette notification suspending the registration of Sri Lanka Automobile Sport (SLAS), the national association of motor sports in Sri Lanka, with immediate effect and appointing a committee for its governance.
The minister has appointed a seven-member committee to organize the car races to be held this year and to carry out the future work of the association.
Veteran motor racing champion Mashesh Gammanpila will head the seven-member committee which will also comprise Major General Indunil Ranasinghe (Secretary), Pubudu Wickrama (Treasurer), Ramish Mahamur, Nishan Weerasuriya, Champika Amarasekara and Sajjad Suhair as other members.
In order to conduct the Sri Lanka Motor Sports Championship, a special general meeting of the Federation has been called and the appointment of a committee has been authorized by the Director General of the Sports Development Department and the convening and holding of the competition has been authorized under the supervision of the Director General, Dr. Shemal Fernando.
Former President Asher Hameen, who says that he was appointed as the president of the Sri Lanka Automobile Sport (SLAS) three times unopposed, said that he always had the blessings of all the members and dedicated himself to the work of the association.
