Interreligious harmony displayed at ‘Our Lady of Sorrows’ Church, Panadura in celebrating Christmas
While all the Christians in the whole world celebrating the dawned Christmas very happily, it’s with sweets and gifts, that the Chief Incumbent of Galagoda Purana Viharaya, Panadura, the Chief Monk of Five Temples, most Ven. Ratnapura Pothupitiye Pagngnasekara visited Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Walana, Panadura, recalling traditional visits to relatives, done by Sinhalese.
Clergy members of other religions, Catholic Nuns, Sisters Muslim Clergy, State sector officials, private sector officials and many more lay people participated in this ‘brotherhood-journey’ which is conducted annually.
The visiting Maha Sangha with lay people, who arrived at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Panadura were cordially welcomed by the Head Priest of the Church Fr. Ranjan Priyadarshana with the participation of Chief Sister of Good Shepherd Convent, Panadura Sr. Renuka De Silva and the Christian gathering and they engaged in friendly conversation.
The Parish priest along with other Catholic clergy present offered ‘Gilanpasa’ to the Maha Sangha while all the Buddhist lay persons who arrived with the Maha Sangha were offered sweets and traditional Christmas fare laid out on a beautifully decorated dining table.
All the participants comprising Maha Sangha, Muslim clergy person, Christians and all other State officials posed for a group photograph, to remember this historical and exemplary religious co-existence event and the remarkable religious harmony that prevailed.
