Ishini Saparamadu from the Department of Building Economics at the University of Moratuwa has earned her a prestigious nomination for the Rising Star Award by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) event held recently at Taj Samudra hotel.

This accolade positions her alongside the industry’s most promising young talents, recognising her exceptional contributions and her potential to drive future advancements in construction practices.

Saparamadu and her academic supervisors Ch. Dr. Suranga Jayasena and Isuru Eranga won the BEPAM Best Paper Award, the research highlight of the night.

Their article, titled “Blueprint for a Natural Language Processing Powered Nexus for Regulatory and Legal Landscape in Construction,” was recognized for its innovative approach to integrating artificial intelligence into the construction sector.

In addition, 2024 saw Ishini’s academic brilliance rewarded with the Outstanding Student Research Performance by the Department of Building Economics, University of Moratuwa.

Her dissertation, “Affordance-led Adoption Model for Construction Contract Administration,” was lauded for its depth and originality, offering fresh methodologies to streamline and improve technology adoption and contract administration in the construction sector.

But her innovation journey began earlier. In 2023, Ishini was named a Semi-finalist for the Innovation and Quality Scholarship by the Chartered Institute of Building, UK, for her pioneering project “ChatGPT for Contract Administration.”

Ishini’s development of automated measurement recording software and a ChatGPT-enabled chatbot for construction automation earned her the Robin Jones Award from the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors, UK.

Securing the World Bank AHEAD Scholarship Funding Grant was another significant milestone in her career. This grant supports her two ground-breaking projects: a Measurement Recording Application designed for automatic payment application preparation and a ChatGPT Integrated Chatbot aimed at enhancing construction contract administration.

In 2024, she made history as the youngest Sri Lankan to conduct a CPD Program under the Professional Affairs Board of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects.

Ishini’s passion for software solutions is exemplified by her latest creation—a cutting-edge construction law chatbot available at www.roboclause.com. This tool is set to transform how construction professionals and stakeholders navigate and apply construction administration laws.
