ITC Certificate, Diploma Programmes for schoolchildren in Ratnapura, Kegalle Districts
The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council (PC) and the University of Sabaragamuwa (UoS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly start Information Technology and Communication (ITC) Certificate and Diploma Programmes for schoolchildren in the Ratnapura and Kegalle Districts.
Sabaragamuwa Provincial Education Secretary Chamara Bamunuarachi and UoS Vice Chancellor Prof. Sunil Shanta signed the MoU for the ITC Course titled “Spark Coders”, on behalf of the Sabaragamuwa PC and the UoS respectively. In addition to this ITC Course, Sabaragamuwa Provincial Governor Navin Dissanayake stated that an English Course has also been started with the assistance of the British Council, for all English teachers in the province.
The Sabaragamuwa PC has allocated Rs. 50 million this year for the ITC Course and another Rs. 50 million for the English course.
Parallel to the inauguration of the two ITC courses the website www.sparkcoders.lk has been released into cyberspace by the Sabaragamuwa Governor. Schoolchildren in Kegalle and Ratnapura, aged 10 to 13, can register for these two ICT courses by logging on to the website www.sparkcoders. Accordingly, schoolchildren in the Sabaragamuwa Province have the opportunity to attend these courses at 28 Teaching Centres in Ratnapura and Kegalle Districts, which are of four months duration.
Students who pass SCTF 1 can also study the SLTC III course, which is equivalent to a second year pass in a national university.
