Jana Jaya Peramuna led by PM to be launched on September 5

A new political alliance formed by Members of Parliament who have split from the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, along with members from other political parties, is set to be launched on September 5 at the Water’s Edge. The alliance, named the Jana Jaya Peramuna, will be unveiled under the leadership of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and aims to field candidates in all upcoming elections.

As its first step, the Jana Jaya Peramuna has decided to submit nominations for the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election before September 12. State Minister Janaka Wakkumbura stated that this new alliance is poised to become a broad coalition capable of contesting future elections.

Speaking at a press briefing in Colombo, Wakkumbura highlighted that according to the 2023 voter registry, an additional one million young voters could participate in the upcoming elections if allowed to vote.
