A special police team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Janaki Siriwardena, an executive officer of an investment company yesterday (4). She has been
aiding and abetting Thilini Priyamali, accused of defrauding unknown wealthy people and black money racketeers of billions of rupees.
A top official of the CID said that since strong evidence was received against her, she was taken into custody on the advice of the Attorney-General.
She had been arrested by a team of police officers from the CID who had gone to her office located in Colombo Fort.
Several businessmen who were deceived by Thilini Priyamali’s scams and complained about it, have said that they gave money to Thilini because Janaki persuaded them in this regard. She is said to have arranged a meeting with Thilini at her home, for a certain businessman.
The CID stated that she was arrested as there was clear evidence that Janaki had aided and abetted the racket carried out by Thilini by inducing many businessmen to invest money in her businesses.
