Japan donates medical equipment worth Yen 500 Mn to Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital

Japan has donated modern equipment worth over 500 million Yen to the Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital for the purpose of controlling Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) in Sri Lanka and reducing deaths caused by it.

Under the first part of the donation medical equipment worth 49 million Yen was handed over on Wednesday at the Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital. Health and Industries Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana and Japanese Ambassador Mizukoshi Hideaki participated in this occasion.

In relation to the first phase of these grants, other modification equipment required for the Angio-CT machine (Radiology Equipment (Angio-CT Machine), Surgical Instrument set), Ophthalmic equipment (Automated Refractometer and Three Slit Lams), Intensive Care Three beds in the unit, one recovery bed were provided.

Japanese Ambassador Mizukoshi Hideaki officially presented the above grant to Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, and the Health Minister also officially handed over the grant to the Chairman of Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital, Dr. Nihal Jayathilaka.

Under this project, Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital will receive an Angio-CT machine and related X-ray equipment, a state-of-the-art dental surgery unit consisting of 15 units, a set of eye equipment, a set of surgical equipment, and a set of liver transplant equipment.

Also, under the local provisions related to this project, the national budget of 2024 has allocated money for a modern cardiac catheterization laboratory including construction, to purchase the OPG (dental x-ray) machine, and for the installation of the dental unit.

Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said that Japan and Sri Lanka have had a friendly diplomatic relationship for over 70 years, and during that time, the Japanese Government has built the Sri JayewardenepuraGeneral Hospital to strengthen the health service in the country. He also said that support for the establishment of the Peradeniya University Faculty of Dentistry, the establishment of blood banks as well as medical equipment, various cooperation programs have been implemented to improve the skills of health care professionals.
