Japanese Language Teachers’ Association of SL honoured with Foreign Minister’s Commendation
In recognition of its remarkable contributions to the advancement of Japanese language education in Sri Lanka and fostering mutual understanding and goodwill between Japan and Sri Lanka, the Japanese Language Teachers’ Association of Sri Lanka (JALTAS) was awarded the prestigious Foreign Minister’s Commendation in a ceremony held by Japanese Ambassador in Sri Lanka Hideaki Mizukoshi, on September 12.
The commendation ceremony was held at the ballroom of the newly reopened Japanese Embassy in Sri Lanka with JALTAS President Darshani Jayasekera accepting the honour on behalf of the Association.
Established in 2004, JALTAS has grown to over 200 members and has been instrumental in promoting the Japanese language and culture in Sri Lanka. Through various initiatives such as the Japanese A/L, O/L Seminar, Japanese Language Teacher Training Seminar, Japanese Drama Competition and Japanese Camp, JALTAS has continuously worked to improve the Japanese language skills of students and teachers alike.
The Japanese cultural exhibitions, co-organised with the Embassy of Japan, is another important contribution of JALTAS.
The exhibitions drew thousands of visitors each year and deepened the cultural ties between the two nations.
In his remarks during the award ceremony, Ambassador Mizukoshi extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the members of JALTAS and acknowledged their dedication and hard work.
He also expressed his appreciation on behalf of the Government and people of Japan and emphasised the important role played by JALTAS in strengthening the bonds of friendship and mutual respect between Japan and Sri Lanka.
This award reflects the ongoing commitment of both Japan and Sri Lanka to foster cultural and educational ties, and the Embassy of Japan looks forward to continued cooperation with JALTAS in the future.
The Foreign Minister’s Commendations are awarded to individuals and groups for their outstanding achievements in the international field to acknowledge their contribution to the promotion of friendship between Japan and foreign countries.
