Jayamaha’s amnesty: CID records statement from former President
Former President Maithripala Sirisena has been questioned by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the alleged bribery that took place when the convict Jude Shaman Anthony Jayamaha was released under a Presidential Amnesty. Jude Jayamaha was convicted of the murder of 19 year old Yvonne Johnnson, and sentenced to death by Court. The former President was interrogated yesterday (18) for about three hours and his statements were recorded.
The CID had initiated this investigation based on two complaints made by MP Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera.
The complaint made by Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera is based on the statement made by the former President, during a political programme on a private television channel.
A senior official of the CID said that former President Maithripala Sirisena had also made complaint to the CID regarding this.
The CID had questioned the former President and recorded a statement at his residence in Colombo.
