JLEA ‘34th Japanese Language Speech Contest’ winner returns from Japan
JLEA Trust, an associate of JASTECA, conduced the 34th Japanese Language Speech Contest 2023, the winner was awarded ‘an all-expenses paid’ one week in Japan.
JLEA Trust conducted the 34th Annual Japanese Language Speech Contest on August 26, showing a remarkable celebration of linguistic and cultural achievements.
The event was honoured by the presence of Hideaki Mizukoshi, Ambassador of Japan in Sri Lanka. The panel of judges included Dayasiri Warnakulasooriya Chairman JLEA Trust, Tetsuya Yamada Chief Representative JICA Sri Lanka, Anna Suzuki Second Secretary Information and Cultural Section, Japanese Embassy in Sri Lanka, Dr. S.M. Punchibanda Past President, JAGAAS and former Lecturer, Japanese Language Course at the Japanese Embassy and Dr. Dilrukshi Rathnayake Head of the Modern Languages Department, University of Kelaniya, from 65 contestant applicants, six finalists advanced in two categories.
A. Pabasarie Gamage of Musaeus College emerged victorious in Category A with her inspiring speech on ‘Be the Captain of Your Own Ship’ thus earning a Laptop for her outstanding performance.
H.A. Dinusha Lakshani from the Sabaragamuwa University of Sri Lanka captivated the judges with her speech, ‘Always Think Positive’ and was awarded an all-expenses-paid tour to Japan, sponsored by the JLEA Trust.
This eight-day cultural cum educational visit, from April 16-22, meticulously organised by Kawanami sensei of AOTS &the Chairman, Dayasiri Warnakulasooriya with the assistance of the JLEA Committee, covering return Airfare, Accommodation and Transportation costs as a Corporate Social Responsibility Project.
Dinusha Lakshani’s itinerary included visits to iconic sites such as Sensoji Temple, Disney Sea (which Dinusha described as her favourite experience, filled with joy and excitement). They were mesmerized by the beauty of Nezu Shrine’s flowers. Their visit to Hakkeijima Sea Paradise was a dream come true, where they were delighted with the Dolphin and Sea Lion Shows. In the following days, they explored the serene Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, admired the Cherry Blossoms and visited the Kameido Tenjin Shrine and experienced the breathtaking views from the Tokyo Sky-Tree.
In Dinusha’s heartfelt appreciation note, she expressed her profound gratitude to the JLEA Trustfor the unique opportunity to immerse herself in the Japanese Culture, Life-style and Society. She highlighted her Culinary Adventures, savouring traditional dishes such as Sashimi, Sushi, Tempura, Yakitori, Udon, Ramen, Okonomiyaki and Takoyaki.
This tour was not merely a prize but a transformative experience that broadened her understanding and appreciation of Japan. The journey underscored the profound impact of cultural exchange, leaving Dinusha with cherished memories and invaluable insights.
