Job opportunities for SL workers in building cleaning services sector in Japan
According to a request made by Labour and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara from Japan, employment opportunities in the building cleaning service sector in Japan will be opened for Sri Lankan workers and the tests to select those workers will begin in June this year.
This was revealed during a discussion between the Minister and a delegation from Japan Building Cleaners’ Association held at the Labour and Foreign Employment Ministry on Wednesday (28). The Minister thanked the Japanese Government and the country’s Justice Minister in charge of immigration for opening these job opportunities to Sri Lankan workers.
Those who have obtained Japanese language proficiency at N4 level are eligible for this under the SSW category and pass two parts of the qualification verification test. There will be a written test as well as a practical test.
The Minister inquired about the training opportunities for the workers expected to face the SSW test under the building cleaning field and the Japanese representatives who responded said that the necessary textbooks and video tapes have been prepared for that. The Minister gave instructions to prepare a system that people have access to these materials.
The Japanese representatives pointed out that the workers applying for these jobs will also have the opportunity to apply for managerial positions by applying for the SSW 2 level and will also have the opportunity to permanently reside in Japan.
Japanese representatives including Japan Building Cleaners’ Association’s Special Representative Sachio Sugiyama, were present for this discussion.
