Junior bodybuilder arrested over death of woman

An 18-year-old bodybuilder who hit an 83-year-old social worker on the head with a stick and robbed the money collected for a blood donation to buy energy vitamins was arrested, Criminal Investigation Division of Mt Lavinia said.

The deceased was an 83-year-old unmarried woman who lived alone in “Nisasala” house, in Moratuwa. Police say that the suspect, who lives in the house next door, is a Sri Lankan who has a UK citizenship and a student at an international school. During the questioning of the suspect, the stick used for the attack, the smartphone stolen from the woman, the T-shirt and shorts that the suspect was wearing at the time of the murder were also taken into Police custody.

Police say that the suspect was preparing to compete in the Mr. Sri Lanka Junior bodybuilding competition in January.

The suspect is to be produced before the Moratuwa Magistrate’s Court.
