Kamburugamuwa District General Hospital to get ETU

Health Ministry Secretary Dr. Palitha Mahipala has instructed the Director of Matara District General Hospital Dr. Upali Karunaratne to take measures to establish an Emergency Treatment Unit (ETU) in the New District General Hospital, Kamburugamuwa by September 1 this year.

The Health Ministry Secretary has given this instruction while participating in an inspection tour of new District General Hospital established in Matara, Kamburugamuwa on Sunday (18).

The Secretary also instructed the hospital director to take steps to deploy doctors, nurses and other health staff from Matara General Hospital for the operation of this Emergency Treatment Unit.

Dr. Mahipala said that this new Emergency Treatment Unit will be established with the aim of providing quality and efficient treatment services to the people of the area by avoiding the inconvenience caused to the patients.

The New District General Hospital, Kamburugamuwa, Matara, operates under the Matara General Hospital and was built with the assistance of the Korean Government.

The Health Ministry Secretary also made a special observation at the Matara District General Hospital.

The Health Secretary had previously taken steps to provide the hospital with an allocation of Rs. 135 million to make new additions as needed in the Matara District General Hospital.

In addition, Rs. 110 million was also given to the hospital to get necessary medical equipment.

The main purpose of this trip was to find out about the new additions made in the hospital through the financial allocations given, as well as to find out how the development of the hospital should take place.

The Secretary adviced the Governing authority led by the hospital director to provide an amount of Rs. 50 million to the hospital to purchase more essential medical equipment and if there are any new additions to be made, to inform them to get funds for the same.

He advised that before the end of this year, all repairs should be carried out and modern essential medical equipment should be procured to provide quality and formal treatment services to the people of Matara district.
