Kandy lawyer struck off roll over forgery

The Supreme Court ruled yesterday (11) ordered to disqualify a lawyer named Mahinda Ratnayake in Kandy who had committed an offence under the Notary Ordinance by preparing a false deed.

Supreme Court Bench of Judges comprised of Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya, S.Thurairaja and Mahinda Samayawardena announced this decision.

This was decided after a hearing was held against this lawyer based on a complaint presented to the Registrar of the Supreme Court by the Registrar of the Central Provincial High Court that he had forged a deed.On February 5, 1999, he was accused of committing an offence under the Notary Ordinance by preparing a forged deed.

The Supreme Court called witnesses and held a lengthy trial before announcing its decision and stated that the charges against the respondent had been proven beyond doubt.

Accordingly, the court decided to disqualify him as a lawyer and ordered his name to be removed from the list of lawyers.
