A record number 35,465 of both local and overseas visitors have arrived at the Kanneliya National Forest Reserve, in last year (2023) a report issued by the Wild Life Conservation Department reveals. The above number of visitors includes 33,409 local travellers and 2,056 foreign tourists.
The Department’s report also states that total income earned in that respect is Rs. 4.3 million. Kanneliya Forest Reserve is the second largest primary forest area in Sri Lanka and is renowned for its watershed value.
