Kegalle prison inmate shot in escape bid, dies

Kegalle Police yesterday said that an inmate of the Kegalle Remand Prison has died after being admitted

 to the hospital in Kegalle following a shooting by prison officers at around 2.45 am yesterday.

The deceased is an inmate who had been punished by the court on the charge of avoiding payment in a maintenance case.

He is a resident of Melsiripura, Ragedera, Divalugama, Imbulgewatte. Yesterday morning, he had tried to escape over the wall of the prison and had been shot by prison officers. Kegalle Police is carrying out further investigations.
