Kelani Saviya awards certificates to 11th batch of students

The certificate award ceremony of the Kelani Saviya Programme for the students who completed the 11th Batch of Kelani Saviya Programme was held recently at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya.

Twenty-eight students, who completed the Kelani Saviya Programme received certificates from the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya. For the first, the ‘Prof. Janaka Ekanayake Best Performance Award’ K.V.D.T.J. Vidanage who was the best student received this coveted award.

The Kelani Saviya programme to continuously provide vocational know how to youth for 17 long years at the University of Peradeniya, marks Kelani Cables sponsored CSR initiative, University of Peradeniya, Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Terence Madhujith said.

Kelani Cables PLC Managing Director Mahinda Saranapala said; “We are proud to witness Kelani Saviya passing yet another milestone as it continues to contribute towards the betterment of Sri Lanka’s electrical technicians.”

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Prof. Udaya Dissanayake, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Engineering Prof. Lilantha Samaranayake, Founder of Kelani Saviya Prof. Janaka Ekanayake, Kelani Cables Deputy Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anil Munasinghe, Kelani Saviya coinitiator & Course Coordinator Jayantha Wijesinghe graced the occasion.

Kelani Saviya commenced in 2007 following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Peradeniya University’s then Vice Chancellor Prof S.B.S. Abeykoon and Kelani Cables Managing Director at the time Hemantha Perera. Kelani Saviya’ is the award winning one-year electrical technicians’ training programme conducted by Kelani Cables PLC in association with the Engineering Faculty of the University of Peradeniya since 2007.

The Alumni Association of Kelani Saviya Programme also facilitated Prof. Janaka Ekanayake, University of Peradeniya, Mahinda Saranapala and Dr. Anil Munasinghe, Kelani Cables PLC for their dedication to the development and sustainability of the Kelani Saviya Programme. The teaching panel of the Kelani Saviya Programme was also facilitated.
