KOICA, JICA Volunteers celebrate International Volunteers Day 2023

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) with the collaboration of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held a full-day event on Saturday (4) to entertain children attached to the Happy Children’s Centre-Mattakkuliya, which was organised to commemorate International Volunteers Day 2023.

The event was carried out with nearly 90 participants of Korea Overseas Volunteers (KOV) and JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) who are currently serving in Sri Lanka, including the children of Happy Children’s Centre. The volunteers conducted joint activities during the event such as gymnastic, making of flip book, hygiene education programme that entertained and educated the children of the Mattakkuliya area. At the end of the event, the children also had an opportunity to enjoy an animated movie together with the Korean and Japanese volunteers at the Scope Cinema, Colombo City Centre.

The event was organised under the theme ‘let us embrace the spirit of volunteerism by bringing smiles to the faces of children’ and both the children and volunteers had an opportunity to share their knowhow, culture and affection during this event.

Both KOICA and JICA volunteers who took part in this event are currently serving in Sri Lanka, contributing towards the socio-economic development of the country by sharing their knowledge, skills and expertise.
