Sri Lanka’s Ravindu Laksiri has been named as the Professional Squash Association (PSA) Challenger Tour Player-of-the-Month for October, after recording impressive tournament victories.
The 26-year-old World number 200 claimed success at the second Bangabandhu Squash Tournament 2022 held in Dhaka, Bangladesh last month in strong fashion.
This was a significant achievement for Laksiri who had never even made a final during his fledgling Tour career prior to this event and the World number 281 came into the Challenger-5 Level competition as the number eight.
Laksiri overcame the fifth seed Sepehr Etemadpoor to advance to the quarter-finals, where he defeated the event’s number two seed Duncan Lee in an hour long five-set contest to reach the last four.
He then made light work of the number four seed Amir Amirul from Malaysia in the semi-finals before dispatching Egypt’s Ziad Ibrahim 3-1 in the final to claim the first title of his career.
