A team of officers from the Intelligence Division of the Police Special Task Force arrested a former Lance Corporal of the Army with 340 ammunitions used for T-56 weapons which were being taken to be sold to the underworld.
The suspect, who was arrested near the Godakawela depot is a resident of the Rakwana Kandauda area.
Special Task Force sources said that the suspect had left the Army in 2009.
On information received by the Special Task Force Intelligence Division that this person was transporting 340 ammunitions to be sold to an underworld criminal at Rs. 500 each, a team of officers including Chief Inspector Nadeeka Silva, the Officer-In-Charge of the Intelligence Division had gone to Godakawela and arrested him.
The suspect has been handed over to the Godakawela Police along with ammunition for further investigation.
