Sri Lana will be able to attract over USD 200 million of foreign direct investments and create at least 2,000 jobs in the medium term in the first six months when the first of the five proposed Techno Parks opens in Walahanduwa Galle in 2023.

“The government plans to build five technology parks nationwide with the aim of establishing Sri Lanka as a hub for technological innovation, attracting foreign investments, encouraging new companies with advanced technology, promoting export-oriented industries, and creating new jobs. The other proposed technology parks will be located in Galle, Kurunegala, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Habarana and transform these areas as global tech hubs,” an official from the Information Technology Agency (ICTA) said.

The tech park in Galle will be on a 30-acre site and will have 350,000 square feet for tech companies with 5G telecom facilities. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, a keen promoter of this project, inspected the site of the tech park in Galle last week and unveiled the project plaque. The president also launched the official logo of the Galle technology park.

Several companies have already expressed interest in investing in this technology city park which will have all the common amenities, 5G technology and state-of-the-art infrastructure. A large number of youth in the Galle District educated in the IT sector will benefit from the technology park.

This initiative will be a key aspect of the overall national digital transformation strategy and as Sri Lanka continues to position itself as a more productive destination for technology services and innovation, it aims to create unique value and lead to future digital economic goals in the country.

Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs and State Minister of Digital Infrastructure Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Plantation Ramesh Pathirana, State Minister Mohan P. de Silva and a number of government officials participated in the preparation of the preliminary plans for this program.
