Sri Lankans living in the vicinity of Israel have been advised and cautioned to refrain from illegally entering Israel through any border at present.

The precautionary advice and request was made by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) as a result of the increasing violence and escalating conflict between Israel and Palestine. SLBFE Media Spokesman Gamini Senarath Yapa said that no danger has been reported for Sri Lankans living in Israel and their safety has been ensured as of now.

Addressing the media yesterday (23), Yapa said that appropriate measures are being taken to ensure the safety of Sri Lankans living in Israel in view of the escalating tensions with Palestine. He also confirmed that 32 Sri Lankans are currently in prison in Israel.

Providing an update on the missing Sri Lankan man, Yapa said that steps are being taken to obtain details of the individual, identified as Yatawara Bandara. The SLBFE Media Spokesman said that measures are being taken in coordination with the Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel and that SLBFE might have to obtain the DNA of a close relative of Bandara in the event that the identification of a body is required.
