“Let us embrace the true spirit of Christmas”

Following is the message from Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa on the occasion of Christmas:

“The sacred festival of Christmas has dawned, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ and symbolising peace and love on earth. This occasion reminds us of God’s boundless love and the dignity of humanity, which serve as the foundation for a society centered on compassion and harmony.

The values of peace, love, co-existence, and empathy preached by Lord Jesus remain vital in shaping and civilizing our present world. “Christmas, with its universal themes of love, peace, and brotherhood, transcends being a religious celebration for Christians. It has become a global cultural festival celebrated by people of all backgrounds, regardless of nationality, religion, or differences. As a nation, it is imperative that we too embrace and act upon its true meaning.

“At this critical juncture, as our country grapples with economic challenges, we must come together in the spirit of brotherhood, reconciliation, and love, setting aside divisions of race, religion, class, or political affiliations. Such unity is essential for the collective progress of both the nation and its people.

“Let us aspire that, by the next Christmas, the lamp of hope transforms into a lamp of tangible progress in every home.

“I extend my heartfelt wishes for a Merry Christmas to all Christians in Sri Lanka.”
