“LG polls can’t topple Govt or change President”

Chief Government Whip and Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said yesterday that the Local Government Election is not an election that can topple the government or change the President.

He further said it is very dangerous to give any sort of power to the JVP which had a deranged mentality to destroy the country and murder its people.

Minister Ranatunga made these remarks while participating in the Gampaha district meeting of SLPP candidates contesting for the upcoming Local Government Election.

“Today, many persons of the Viyathmaga who misguided the former President and brought the country to anarchy have joined other political parties while some others are sitting on the fence unable to decide on their move. But we should gather them for our victory,” he added.

He said that the JVP is a party that does nothing but criticize. It is dangerous to give power to a group of people who have the mentality to kill people and burn bodies. “How many thousands of people were killed to get power during the ’88/’89 era? However, this election is not an election that can topple the government or change the President,” the Minister said.
