Lightning advisory: Amber alert issued to 12 districts

The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in the Galle, Matara, Kalutara and Rathnapura districts today (21).

Per the advisory, effective until 11.00 pm, red alerts have been issued to 04 districts and amber alerts have been issued to 12 districts.

Thunderstorms accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at some places in the above districts after 1.00 p.m. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damage caused by lightning activity. (Newswire)
