Mahinda Rajapaksa era and Chinthana turned SL into a rapidly developing Economy

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna’s (SLPP) Presidential Candidate Namal Rajapaksa said that the Mahinda Rajapaksa era and Mahinda Chinthana turned Sri Lanka into a rapidly developing Economy, despite the massive economic collapse of the world.

“We need to take this country to where the new generation expects. We believe that this country should be modernised. The public servant should be respected. There is a question about the way the working class is treated in this country”, Namal Rajapaksa said.

Namal Rajapaksa said this at the rally held in Divulapitiya town on Saturday (24) for the victory of the SLPP in the 2024 Presidential Election.

Namal Rajapaksa further said that, “In 2005, our forces headed by Mahinda Rajapaksa, accepted the challenge of defeating terrorism and we won that. And politically, a world economic collapse happened back then. The Mahinda Rajapaksa era and Mahinda Chinthana were able to turn Sri Lanka into the fastest developing economy in the world even when the world’s major economies were collapsing.

We lost in 2015. We were self-sufficient before 2015. People were able to eat three meals a day. After 2015, that situation disappeared and the country slowly went backwards after that. I am ready to start the development of this country from where Mahinda Rajapaksa left off.

Our country was self-sufficient with power and energy. However, not a single megawatt of electricity was added to the grid after 2015. The Uma Oya and Sampur power plants started by Mahinda Rajapaksa were stopped midway and the economy collapsed rapidly. There was an attack on Easter Sunday. Fear of terrorism, fear of guarding schools and fear of children’s safety were felt by parents.

They said that, in 2018, we will be made to walk on the roads. Due to the alliance between the United National Party (UNP) and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), we formed the SLPP because the local thinking and policies we believe in were not in that political camp.
