Investigations have revealed that the shooting that took place in front of the Maligawatte Pensions Department near a motorcycle and three-wheeler service station was linked to the shooting of Podi Kavi at Matis Lane, Keselwatte.
The shooting at Maligawatte took place on September 1 around 1.40 p.m. Police say that the bike service station on Maligawatta Abeysingharama Road was opened on the same day. The gunners aimed at one of the two brothers who founded the service station. He was shot and is currently receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital. It is said that two shots were fired from a revolver. The victim is a resident of the Borella Methsiri Sevana housing complex. He was shot in the groin and below the elbow of his right arm.
Information revealed that a red Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle had come for the shooting. Security cameras had the recording of the shooters moving. Investigations revealed that the person who was shot is married to the sister of Maligawatte Neville, a drug trafficker who is currently on the run from the country. The investigation teams have also received information that Neville is behind the killing of Podi Kavi in Keselwatta on August 20. Preliminary investigations revealed that this shooting was a retaliation for that.
Keselwatte Dinuka was the underworld criminal who led the Keselwatte drug underworld. After he died of a heart attack in Dubai, his gang split into two groups. One group is led by Dhanuka and the other group is led by Dhanesh. Both of them are out of the country.
Kavi, who was killed on the 20th, was an associate of Dhanuka. It is said that this murder was done by Dhanesh through Neville who is staying in Dubai. A senior police officer said that investigations show that his brother-in-law has become the target of Dhanuka’s gang as revenge against Neville.
The suspects involved in Podi Kavi’s murder have been arrested by the Colombo Crime Division along with the firearm and the shooter.
